Insects: One million and one - a program and walk to learn "insect basics" from identification to mounting
Learn the "insect basics" that have resulted in insects being one of the most diverse and successful groups of organisms on earth. Join as we explore the trails of the Nature Center with nets, catching and identifying some the myriad of insects that can be found in our area at this time of year. Participants will learn the basics to mounting, identifying and beginning an insect collection.

Pretty but poison, Tasty but Toxic - Get the scoop on common wild plants that are poisonous to touch or eat - join us for an evening plant walk.

Saturday, July 31st @ 8:30 a.m.
Walk the Wetlands - a field trip to explore the wetlands along the Black Fork River on the Rischland- Ashland County border- bring some boots- meet at GNC at 8:30 to carpool, or call for directions to meet there.

Wednesday, August 4th @ 7:00 p.m.
Curious Critters: Beautiful and Bizarre Animal Portraits - a nature photography program by David FitzSimmons.
David will present a slide show on his popular and ever- growing collection "Curious Critters" images, shots of insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals and other cute, interesting and bizzare creatures. This portrait series features up-close, ground-level views of intriguing animals, all photographed against white backgrounds. The striking photos encourage viewers to engage eye-to-eye with animals that are often overlooked or misunderstood. Audience members will recieve one free curious critters postcard.

The praying Mantis - An insect with Attitude - Learn about these strange creatures. Many insects prey on other insects for a living, but none with more panache then the Mantids.

Saturday, August 28th @ 8:30 p.m.
Mohican Bat Banding - At Mohican's covered bridge- watch as biologists capture, identify, band and release wild bats. This is always a fun evening excursion in the beautiful setting of Mohican's Covered Bridge. Join us as biologists capture, identify, band and release the bats that travel from afar to feed on the emergent aquatic insects of this local "wild place." With the aid of detectors participants will be able to listen in on the high frequency calls that the foraging bats emit. Bring a flashlight.

Ghost Hunt - Ohio State Reformatory

Admission price is $65 per person which includes access to the building from 8:00pm until dawn and a late dinner of pizza and soda. Water, soda, coffee and hot chocolate available throughout the evening.  Overnight paranormal investGhost hunts are sold out at 100 people. There is no waiting list or cancellation list for ghost hunts. We do not know of cancellations until the event begins.igation for ages 21 and overSecurity for each hunt will be provided by a uniformed police officer.
The building contains hazards including, but not limited to: steep steps, uneven surfaces and lead-based paint. It is not recommended for pregnant women.

Wizard of Oz Youth Theatre - Mansfield Playhouse

Little Dorothy of Kansas like so many girls her age, dreams frequently of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her home town and carries her away-over the rainbow. Dorothy finds herself in picturesque Munchkinland. In this famous land of Oz, she meets her three friends, The Scarecrow, The Tin Woodman, and The Cowardly Lion. Together they follow the yellow brick road to the adventure of a life time.
