The Mansfield Symphony Youth Strings, under the direction of Percy F. Hall, performs their 2011 Spring Concert, "Corelli, Handel, Verdi and Rodgers" at the Renaissance Theatre. The Youth Strings will perform Adagio and Allegro by Corelli, "Aida" Grand March by Verdi, Music for the Royal Fireworks by Handel, selections from The King and I by Rodgers and more.
The Mansfield Symphony Youth Strings was formed in 1992 to provide an additional performance outlet for young string musicians in the Mansfield area and to serve as a feeder program for the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra. This orchestra experience not only complements the musical instruction young people receive in their schools, but also provides a large ensemble experience to students who have no access to a school orchestra program.
Percy Hall is in his ninth year as conductor of the Youth Strings. He retired in 1993 after 41 years as a school band and orchestra director in Mansfield, Ohio. He was an Adjunct Instructor at Ashland University from 1993 to 2003. He has composed and arranged music for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles, as well as orchestral arrangements for the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. One hundred eighty of his small ensembles for brass, woodwinds, percussion and strings have been published by Great Works Publishing, Inc. All are included in the newly revised list of OMEA Solo and Ensemble required compositions and are on lists in a number of other states as well. He has arranged many of the pieces performed by the Youth Strings, 38 of which are now published. For a complete list of Mr. Hall's published compositions, visit www.percyhall.com on the internet.
