Kid Friendly The museum is the oldest museum in Richland County founded in 1889. The museum is a step back in time to the late 1800's. Artifacts on 2 floors of displays span from Roman to modern times. The museum houses many collections from early Native American, African, Asian, miliary, and natural history. A display of nearly 600 planes showing the history of aviation is on display.

The Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Building that houses the museum is an architectural wonder unchanged since the building opened in 1889. We are the permanent home of ELEKTRO, the Westinghouse robot built for the 1939 New York World's Fair, oldest Surviving American Robot in the World. Call the museum for any hour changes. We can be open for schools, educational institutions during the week by appointment. Please call for details.

Amazing place inside. This place is very welcoming and down to earth. It is nice to see places like this that value the history of its history.
Only complaint would be the lack of the sign. I drove by this place four times before I noticed the sign hidden by the door.

I absolutely adore this place. I hail from Mansfield, and on vacation I was proud to bring my friends from Los Angeles to this truly unique museum. After an awesome personal tour of Elektro - the Westinghouse robot, interesting local film stars and many other things of historical interest from the wonderful fella that runs it, we headed upstairs to view the absolutely astonishing anthropomorphic displays. It's free, so you're a chump to now donate to this wonderful place. Very much a labor of love, and very much worth the trip! Highly recommended!

I am impressed and feel Mansfield has many unique things to be proud of. I am looking forward to viewing the Museum hopefully this Sunday, for the first time. A Cleveland news broadcast advertised it on Neal Zircher's One Tank Trip. I wish to perhaps see the ghost of the museum's first director, Edward Wilkinson. I had never been to Mansfield and am glad that you have such a descriptive web site. I have spotted a few typo's on the museum's home web page. I am curious about the movie that Elektro was featured in made in 1959. The site states the title is 'Sex Kittens go to College'. I sort of find this hard to believe and hope it is a typo. I think the real title may have been 'Six Kittens go to College' especially since it was released in 1960 and times were MUCH more old fashioned then.
