The Bissman Building was the site of the Brewer Hotel where Brooks, actor James Whitmore, went to stay and hung himself soon after being paroled from the Shawshank Prison. The building was also utilized as the front office for the set of the Portland Daily Bugle. Please note that only the front of the building was used in the movie. The actual "hotel room" where Brooks stayed was staged at the Historic Ohio State Reformatory.
Friday: 10:00-5:00pm walk-in tours. Donations suggested and go towards restoration of the building.
Friday: 8:30pm- ?. Ghost Walk at the Haunted Bissman Building! $10 per person (cash/credit card at the door). A Ghost Walk of the Brewer Hotel and Portland Daily Bugle. Park across the street from the building. Doors open- 8:30pm, Walk- 9:00pm. Proceeds benefit the restoration and preservation of the Brewer Hotel/Portland Daily Bugle! Kids under 18 may attend with parent(s). Photos and video recording welcome! Bring flashlights and sturdy walking shoes! Limited edition t-shirts available!

Sunday: Building closed today. We encourage you to take photos from the outside.
